I am Professor of Philosophy of Education at the University of Birmingham. I write books and articles about moral, religious and political education and I edit IMPACT, a pamphlet series offering philosophical perspectives on UK education policy. I’m a qualified primary teacher and taught in the 1990s at two Birmingham primary schools. For eight years I was warden of a student hall of residence in London, with responsibility for the welfare and pastoral care of 850 residents.
Three of my children have attended Kings Heath Primary School.
My expertise in education theory and policy enables me to make a distinctive contribution to the work of the Governing Body. I have a particular interest in the school curriculum and I chair the Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Committee.
