Playcare

Playcare is the before and after school club that operates from Kings Heath Primary school exclusively for the use of Kings Heath Primary School pupils. We also run a holiday club which is open to children from Kings Heath Primary School and primary school aged children from the wider community.

Playcare is Ofsted registered and is regularly inspected to ensure high quality childcare is being delivered. We place the safety of your children at the centre of everything we do as well as striving to make every child’s experience fun and enjoyable.

All about us

Kings Heath Playcare is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee, run by parents for parents, to provide high quality out of school care. We have a board of trustees made up of parents whose children attend Playcare, a full-time manager and two co-ordinators who manage Playcare on a day to day basis. We operate separately from Kings Heath Primary School but enjoy excellent relationships with them. Except for some specific grant funding, the scheme is funded by fees.

Playcare was first opened in 1995. We now offer care to around 85 children a day and currently have over 170 children on our register.

Term time play scheme — before and after school

During term time children from Nursery to Year 6 are able to attend both morning and afternoon sessions. Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children are cared for on the school site whilst older children are on the school site in the morning and Kings Heath Community Centre on Heathfield Road, in the afternoon.

Playcare is open between 7.459.00am in the morning and from 3.206.00pm in the afternoon. In the morning breakfast is available to all children. There are a range of activities for the children to take part in before the children are taken to their classroom by staff. The older children go into the playground to line up with their classes.

In the afternoon younger children are collected from their classrooms and given a snack. They then have a range of supervised activities such as playing in the playground, arts and crafts, quiet reading, modelling, cooking and construction. We take account of the fact that younger children are often tired at the end of the day and offer quiet activities as well as more physical ones. We are able to cater for children with special needs and will happily discuss this with you. Key Stage 2 children meet Playcare staff in the playground and are escorted to Kings Heath Community Centre where their after school session follows a similar routine.

Applying for a place at Playcare

For children already attending the school, a letter will be sent via the school to parents, detailing the service offered by Kings Heath Playcare. This letter will give a brief overview of our playcare service and will also contain and ‘expression of interest’ for childcare form. The forms need to be completed and returned directly to playcare. Parents are asked to take note of the cut off dates as by not complying with the dates could affect your application.

Due to legislations around data sharing in line with GDPR, the school are unable to share parent details, therefore new parents and children to the school and Kings Heath Playcare, will be required to contact playcare directly to discuss their childcare requirements and request an initial expression of interest for childcare form. Our contact details can be found via our scheme website.

Please note that Playcare award places adhering to our place allocation criteria, parents are welcome to contact us to discuss our place allocation process.

Playcare’s holiday play scheme

Children do not need to attend during term time to be offered a place during the holiday periods. In the holidays we have a range of activities including trips out. We are open for almost all of the school holidays and have 24 places available each day, offering full and half days at a reasonable prices.

Programmes and booking forms are given out to school families and the wider community with priority being given to existing scheme users. They will also be available on our website.
